A student at in EasternCape has accidentally received a whopping R14-million payment from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme and has already spent about half a million of it.
University spokesperson Yonela Tukwayo confirmed to TimesLive on Wednesday morning that a female student in the Eastern Cape had received the payment about five months ago.
Tukwayo said the deposit was made in error by a company which administers NSFAS fund debit orders.
NSFAS, tweeted that it was not to blame for the incident.
There’s no R14m of NSFAS that was sent to a student. It’s practically impossible. WSU must rectify their arrangements with intellicard.

In the meantime, Intellicard blocked her account.
Tukwayo said that the overpayment is currently having no effect on the payment of loans to other students, but it still needs to determine how it will affect future payments.
