Canva World Tour is coming to Joburg and Durban this November

Here’s how to be part of it…

The Canva World Tour is stopping in Durban and Johannesburg for free, hands-on sessions where you learn the newest tools, make real content, and meet other creatives in your city.

What is the Canva World Tour?

The Canva World Tour is Canva’s yearly push to get free, practical design training to as many people as possible. This year it runs from 14 September to 30 November 2026, with events led by local teams and community leaders around the world.

Most people don’t set out to “learn design”, Canva says. They want a CV that gets noticed or a logo for a side hustle, and they pick up the skills along the way. So the tour keeps lessons short and built for your phone. Some take only 90 seconds, and you can go all the way up to a full certification. This year’s big addition is Canva AI Essentials, a free certification you can finish at your own pace that teaches you how to use Canva’s AI tools well.

Durban: Friday, 6 November

The Durban event is aimed at the city’s creative community. Its organizers say it’s about doing, not sitting through talks.

On the day you can:

  • try Canva’s latest features hands-on
  • explore Design School, Canva’s free learning hub
  • turn your ideas into content that stops people scrolling
  • meet other Durban creatives
  • stand a chance to win prizes and take home goodies

Johannesburg: “The Creative Playground”

Joburg’s event is called The Creative Playground. It’s built around workshops where you make things, and space is tight.

Attendance is strictly capped so the workshops stay small.

The organizers say attendees will:

  • use Canva’s newest AI features to come up with fresh ideas
  • make content for several platforms at once, in minutes
  • get unstuck with quick design challenges
  • team up with other Joburg creatives to work through briefs and build live projects
  • leave with finished designs ready to post or pitch

There will also be creative stations to try, prize giveaways, custom keepsakes, networking, product launches and practical tips.

The Joburg event is run by Canvassadors, local Canva community leaders. Oladunni Daodu and Muphulusi Nefale are hosting, with Themba Goniwe, Linathi Makanda, Masego Moalosi, Joshua Ngcongwane, Aisha Ilyas Van Nieuwenhuizen, Debbie Mdlongwa and Kelvin Vuyo Mahlangu also on the team. The speakers are Nsuku Maguvhe, Zahraa Haffejee and Tshimologo Leburu, and Anastasia Nkhuna and Renaè Mangena are moderating the panel.

Why it’s worth going

For students, freelancers and small business owners, a few hours at either event could save you weeks of trial and error. You’ll leave with:

  • new skills you can use straight away, including Canva’s AI tools
  • finished designs you made yourself on the day
  • contacts in your city’s creative scene
  • maybe a prize
