Performance of High Schools to be judged by the results of Grade 8 to Grade 12 pupils

The performance of high schools will soon be judged by the results of Grade 8 to Grade 12 pupils.

Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga, says she’s working on a new performance system that will ensure that teachers do not only focus on Grade 12 results, but focus on other grades as well.
Motshekga says the system will in future make sure that teachers treat all grades the same.
“Even a grade 8 teacher should know they must get 100% if that’s your standard, grade 10 you must get 100% if you are performing well for the school and 12 because the culling of kids where you find that for grade 11 they have 60% pass for grade 12 its 100% pass is not helpful because it discourages kids and kids tend to drop out if they fail grade but we also think its almost cheating and a bit dishonest if you are not performing as the entire school.”
