Nedbank has donated R2 million to the Wits University Access campaign which aims to raise funds for students who don’t qualify for NSFAS funding and cannot afford university fees.
SRC President Nompendulo Mkatshwa addressed first year students and their parents today and Vice Chancellor Professor Adam Habib was also there to welcome the new students.
Mkatshwa has urged all stakeholders, from the public sector to the private sector, to donate money to the Access campaign.
She says it’s designed to provide tertiary funding for students who are referred to as the ‘missing middle’.
Mkwatsha says they aim to raise R10 million by the end of February.
She has urged others to hop on board and make their donations.
“Nedbank representatives come and hand over a cheque of R2 million.”
She says orientation week will be filled with all sorts of fund raising events to reach the R10 million target.
