National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has paid out R621 million in allowances to 203,653 TVET students, meeting its 17 April 2026 commitment.
In a statement, National Student Financial Aid Scheme said 12,000 students were excluded from this payment cycle after routine checks found data mismatches between colleges and NSFAS systems.
The scheme said it is working with affected institutions to fix the discrepancies and will decide if a supplementary payment is needed once corrections are completed. To avoid further disruptions, National Student Financial Aid Scheme has also deployed specialist teams to colleges across provinces to help resolve outstanding data issues.
NSFAS said it is “strengthening collaboration with all institutions” to ensure accurate and timely data submissions, noting this is critical for efficient allowance payments and preventing future delays. The scheme added it remains committed to “transparency, accountability, and student-centred service delivery,” while appreciating the cooperation and patience of stakeholders as it works toward “a swift resolution.”
