David Tlale Academy opens applications for clothing and textile training programme

Applications close on 14 August 2026.

David Tlale Academy, in partnership with the Fibre Processing and Manufacturing (FP&M) SETA, is now accepting applications for its next intake of aspiring clothing and textile professionals.



The programme is aimed at young people looking to build a career in South Africa’s fashion manufacturing industry, offering practical, industry-focused training with no prior experience required.

Successful applicants will receive hands-on training in:

  • Basic and advanced pattern making
  • Basic cutting
  • Industrial machine operation
  • Basic and advanced garment construction
  • Finishing and pressing

The programme is open to South Africans aged 18 to 35 living in or around Johannesburg, Gauteng, who are passionate about the clothing, textile and manufacturing industry.

Only 50 spaces are available for this intake, with training taking place at The Barbican in Marshalltown, Johannesburg.
