Commencing the year, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has confirmed that out of the 20,000 outstanding allowances, 9128 allowances have been successfully resolved. The remaining eleven thousand (11,000) allowances are a priority and will be processed as part of the normal disbursement procedure for 2024.
These remaining allowances are a result of delays in the submission of registration data by universities.
Regarding this year’s applications, NSFAS has received 1,406,189 applications as of January 15, 2024. NSFAS anticipates nearly 1 million additional applications before the closure of the 2024 application cycle on January 31, 2024.
This year, the government has allocated R3.8 billion as the initial capitalization fund to support the loan scheme for 2024.
NSFAS urges all applicants to submit a mandatory consent form for verifying information from third parties, particularly regarding the employment status and income level of parents, guardians, or spouses. Applicants in statuses like “Awaiting Evaluation, Financial Eligibility, and Application Data” will receive instructions on uploading the form through SMS and email.
APPLICATIONS FOR 2024 WILL CLOSE ON WEDNESDAY, 31 JANUARY 2024.
