Applications for 2026 Matric Rewrite are now open

The Gauteng Department of Education is inviting eligible candidates to register for the May/June 2026 matric exams. This is open to learners rewriting to improve their results, as well as adults completing their matric through the Second Chance Matric Programme.

Who can apply?

Matric Rewrite (NSC – Repeat Candidates)

This is for learners who have already written Grade 12 and want to improve their marks.

  • Registration is manual only (no online applications).

  • Apply at a registered exam centre or GDE District Office.

  • You cannot add or change subjects.

  • You must have a valid ID and meet assessment requirements.

Adult Learners (Senior Certificate – SC)

This is for adults aged 21 and older, or out-of-school youth aged 18–21 with approval.

  • You can apply online at eservice.gov.za or manually at a GDE District Office.

  • You must meet the minimum education requirements.

Closing date

6 February 2026

When registering in person, bring your valid ID and any previous results or certificates.
